Just 25 miles from Nice, Frejus St Raphael offers a less busy and interesting starting point for your holidays. The Motorail station, tucked away on the town’s outskirts is reached thru small tree lined streets and yet the Autoroute, the arterial A8, linking Spain to Italy is just 5 minutes away. N roads, coastal and inland are also close and readily accessible. Exquisitely positioned, it is central to a truly holiday coastline. Unbelievably- It is less that one hour only away from the Italian border at Ventimellia! and would make an attractive start point from travellers heading for Italy. That coastal route stretches westward thru San Remo, Menton, Nice and to those familiar Riviera resorts of Antibes, Cannes, Saint Aygulf and Juan les Pins-small individual, floral 'living' towns with their beckoning beaches, azur twinkling sea and relaxing seafront restaurants with tempting menus.
If travelling through our new Frejus Motorail terminal and time allows, have lunch in any of small seaside towns, choose a restaurant looking out over the Bay-pastis to start and then Moules Mariniere, along with a chilled local Rosé.
Beyond these immediate resorts you can travel west right along the shoreline. The winding coast road, busy in summer, is glorious. Catch that road outside bustling August- and you will be delighted. 20 miles further down that road is fashionable Ste Maxime and just beyond is Port Grimaud, Grimaud Village and historic La Croix Valmer. St Tropez, the crowned gem of this coast is not to be missed.
Inland and worth a visit are the ‘perched’ villages of Gassin, Ramatuelle and La Garde Freinet. Hugging the coastline further will bring you to the genteel resorts of Cavalaire and Le Rayol and ultimately to Toulon and Marseille with their excellent ferry connections to Tunisia, Majorca, Sardinia and Corsica
Try not to ‘just see Frejus thru your rear view mirror’-try and find time to explore this heritage, pre-Roman town with its seafaring history. Still to be seen are the remains of the town walls and the Roman ampitheatre is today still used for concerts. There is a notable Catherdral surrounded by tight narrow streets with pavement cafes and inexpensive menus. As with this entire Area, are wonderful, small individual family run restaurants that ooze with the pride of their owner chefs and their families.
In summary this ideal coastal new Motorail station will allow many to reach those French Riviera villas, campsites and holiday homes-quicker and offers a starting point to a wide choice of holiday destinations thru an Area that has inspired many of our Great 19 & 20th century artists.
